Contrast Material: Required in some cases

Main Applications:

  • Alterations of the intervertebral disks (slip disk, protrusion)
  • Inflammatory or tumor-related changes in the spine
  • Bone marrow changes
  • Scars after operations
  • Bone marrow changes

The Examination:

  • Patients lie face-up on the MRI table, with their head or feet  at the front, and their arms next their body.
  • The patient's head is inside the tunnel when their head is at the front.
  • The  spine will be positioned centrally within the tunnel. It may be necessary to move the table during the examination.
  • If an intravenous injection of contrast material is required, it is provided  through the venous access introduced earlier, which is  attached to an injector.

The magnetic tunnel is illuminated from within, ventilated, and open at both ends. A window allows for visual contact with patients, who can contact the technologist at any time by speaking through an intercom system or pressing a bell. The scanner makes loud tapping sounds during the procedure, so patients are given ear plugs or headphones before the procedure.

Patients are requested to refrain from any movement during the examination since this disturbs imaging as well as their evaluation / reporting by the doctor.
